Governor Still Pushing for Tougher DUI Laws

The special session may have ended with nothing new, but Olympia is still pushing for DUI law changes. The latest proposed DUI legislation affect second and fourth offenders.

While not a change for Whatcom County, it is proposed that second offense DUI arrests will now be held in custody until they see a judge—usually within 48 hours.

Previously, a fifth DUI in ten years was escalated to a felony DUI. The new law being propsed reduces this to a fourth DUI in ten years.
