Drunken Driver Sentenced to 6 Years for Crash that Killed an Everson ManJonathan Rands
A Whatcom County man was sentenced to 6 1/2 years in prison this week for vehicular homicide, but will stay out of prison on bond.
We continue to follow the story of an Everson man, Brian Smith, who crashed almost head-on and killed Jason Schuyleman who was riding a motorcycle. After being found guilty of vehicular homicide by a jury in late November 2016 (read about the trial), Judge Charles Snyder handed him a 6 1/2 year sentence this week, which is the bottom of the standard range of 6 1/2 - 8 1/2 years. Snyder also ruled that Smith could stay out of prison while he appealed the verdict if he could meet and post the bail of $100,000.
